Community-based support is delivered one-on-one with a participant and may include but is not limited to assistance with community-based activities, as well as supervision and training of individuals, as they perform and learn the various tasks that are included in social skills, basic self-care, and activities of daily living. This is to improve our clients’ and families’ social ties and deepen the understanding of Developmental Disabilities.
Examples of Community-Based Support Activities
1. Support from staff to let an individual attend an event, take a class, etc.
2. Support from staff to assist individuals to participate in activities such as assistance in completing activities of daily living, purchasing items, ordering off a menu, laundry skills, learning basic cooking, accessing activities in the community, etiquette travel training, etc.
